Pragya, a 32-year-old from Chapra, was married in April 2021 to a resident of Patna. At the time of marriage, her family gave ₹11 lakhs in dowry. However, soon after, her in-laws began demanding an additional ₹10 lakhs and a car. When these demands were not met, Pragya was subjected to continuous abuse—ranging from physical violence to mental harassment. She was also forced into a miscarriage and finally thrown out of her marital home in June 2023.
Despite approaching Mahila Koshang and the One Stop Centre for help, reconciliation efforts failed as her in-laws openly claimed influence over the police, leaving her without justice.
In 2025, the Bihar Legal Network (BLN) intervened. The team supported Pragya in filing her FIR, ensured that all crucial evidence was documented and submitted, and initiated legal proceedings against her abusers.
Her case is now moving forward in court, marking a critical step toward justice. Pragya’s struggle and BLN’s intervention highlight how timely and sustained legal aid can empower survivors of dowry-related violence to fight back against systemic injustice.
