On March 8, 2023, two minor girls in Begusarai were forcefully taken to a school bathroom and brutally sexually assaulted by two assailants, leaving them with severe internal and external injuries. The Special POCSO Court delivered swift justice by convicting the accused, sentencing them to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000. However, the convicts attempted to overturn the judgment by filing a criminal appeal and seeking bail, which threatened to undermine the hard-won justice for the survivors.
The Bihar Legal Network (BLN) stepped in to protect the victims’ rights and ensure accountability. BLN’s lawyers strongly opposed the bail application during the appeal (CR. APP (DB)-208/2024), presenting arguments that highlighted the gravity of the crime and the risk to the survivors if the offenders were released. Their intervention ensured that the High Court denied bail, safeguarding both the survivors and the integrity of the trial court’s decision.
